Blog 10 - Dublin, Guinness & Giggles: A Mini Break to Remember
Our second visit to Dublin was every bit as fun-filled and fabulous as the first—and this time, we had the perfect excuse to return: a Christmas-present-turned-mini-break to see one of our favourite comedians, Jim Jefferies.
Yes, we could have seen him locally in Manchester… but where’s the adventure in that? A city break and a comedy show? Count us in.
Flying Fancy (For 45 Minutes)
We flew with Aer Lingus on the new A320 Neo, and noticed an option to upgrade to business class with lie-flat seats for just a small premium over the standard fare. We figured—why not? Who knows when we’ll next get to try long-haul-style business class, so we treated ourselves.
The seats were amazing—spacious, comfy, and definitely made us dream of future long-haul trips. But, since the flight is only 45 minutes, the crew barely had time to hand out bottles of water before we were descending. Still, worth it for the experience!
Where We Stayed: Leonardo Hotel, Parnell Street
We stayed at the Leonardo Hotel on Parnell Street. It was perfectly fine for a short stay—central, clean, and convenient, though like most places in Dublin, a little on the pricey side. That said, we don’t mind paying a bit extra for a great location, especially when we’re only there for a few days.
Day 1: Guinness & Good Times
We kicked off our trip with a visit to the famous Guinness Storehouse. Whether you're a fan of the black stuff or not, the experience is worth it. The storytelling, history, and views from the Gravity Bar are fantastic—and yes, we did sample a few pints while we were there. Would’ve been rude not to!
Day 2: Jameson & Jim Jefferies
Day two started with a trip to the Jameson Distillery—a great experience and a must-do if you’re a whiskey fan (or even just whiskey-curious). The tour is fun, interactive, and yes, there are tastings!
That evening was the main event: Jim Jefferies at Dublin's 3Arena. If you ever get the chance to see him live—go. We laughed until our faces hurt. The venue was buzzing, the show was brilliant, and the crowd was up for it. 10/10 evening.
Day 3: River Views & Romantic Surprises
For our final day, we took a slow wander down the river and hopped aboard a Dublin river cruise. The guide was fantastic—sharing the history and future of Dublin’s docks in a fun and informative way. And we even witnessed a marriage proposal under the Lovers Bridge! A magical little moment we won’t forget.
After the cruise, we made our way to Temple Bar for a few drinks and some lunch (as touristy as it is, it still hits the spot). That night, we wrapped things up with live music at Murray’s on O’Connell Street—an easy-going spot with a great atmosphere and a brilliant way to end the trip.
Final Thoughts: Still Mad for Dublin
This quick trip to Dublin had it all: laughter, live music, legendary drinks, and a touch of luxury in the sky. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, Dublin always delivers. And while we might need a detox after all that Guinness and Jameson… we’re already plotting our next visit.
